Soul Stealer: Soul stealer

21/11/08  ||  Euthanatos

Out of all places, Soul Stealer hail from Lithuania. That’s fucking metal. Do you know much about Lithuania? No? You don’t say. Let me enlighten you. It is officially called the Republic of Lithuania (Lietuvos Respublika), it’s capital is Vilnius, which is where Soul Stealer comes from, and the country is a parliamentary representative democratic republic. Got it? Good. Let us not make the haste mistake of not knowing what we are talking about again.

Now, then, to arms. What is Soul Stealer all about? Plain, traditional heavy metal in… Lithuanian. That can be a turn-off for most of you, right? Honestly, it doesn’t do much harm, Lithuanian is actually an interesting language. Not that I would know, I don’t speak it, but it sounds cool, and that’s what matters. Alas, everything here is pretty boring. The songs are pretty homogeneous and there are some terrible keyboards to complement them, and I don’t care for that at all. The vocalist is pretty good, reminds me of Falconer’s Mathias, somewhat. The trouble is, his vocals tend to get a bit repetitive. I don’t know if that’s his fault or the songs’.

There’s a pretty funny moment in “The Reaper”, with its lyrics in English. “I am the reaper and I come for you”. That’s gold right there.

If Soul Stealer wasn’t from Lithuania, but from Italy or Germany, we probably wouldn’t spend 2 minutes talking about them. Well, we probably still would, because the label sent the album to us, but still, you get the point. The band is pretty generic, nothing to see here, move along. I will commend them on practicing metal in such a little known land, it’s cool to divulge your country and that you’re doing metal over there. I’m pretty sure there’s metal in most countries, but we don’t get to hear about most of them, so Soul Stealer deserve their props because of this. But that’s as far as I go when saying good things. I’m not a fucking priest.

Did I mention Lithuania’s currency is the Lithuanian litas? Well, there you go, then.

The cover: It’s either a forest, broken glass or an anus. One of those for sure.

4 not bad, but not really any good songs out of 10.
